Bento™ can import and export data from and to CSV files. These are essentially plain text files where each record is stored on its own line and each item of data, or field, within a record is separated by a comma, hence Comma Separated Value or CSV file.

You should always back up the data on your Mac and applications such as Time Machine make this easier than ever. However if you are not using Time Machine or performing other regular backups or you just want a snapshot of your collection of Libraries before you try something out you can perform a manual backup in Bento.

Registering Bento seems to cause some problems because of two main issues. The first is that the early Preview releases of Bento cannot be registered and so if you are using a Preview release then you should download a trial version instead. The second problem is that the button to license Bento is not enabled despite entering your name and license key. This is because the key is linked to the name so you must use the exact name that appears in your Bento license.

In the screenshot below you can see that there is a line which specifies the ‘User or Organization Name for Installation’ and this is what you need to enter in Bento.
