Question:
What are the differences between Bento for iPhone and iPod touch and Bento for Mac?Answer:
Here are some of the ways in which Bento for iPhone and iPod touch works differently than Bento 2.0v4 for Mac:SYNCHRONIZATION
The following items ARE synchronized to your mobile device from Bento 2 for Mac but can only be viewed (not created or edited) in Bento for iPhone.
- Calculation fields
- Movies or sounds contained in a media field that are less than 10MB in size
- Related records list fields (except related iCal events and tasks)
The following items ARE NOT synchronized to your mobile device from Bento 2 for Mac and cannot be viewed, created or edited in Bento for iPhone:
- iCal events and tasks. Events and tasks from iCal are not accessible in Bento for iPhone and iPod touch as the iPhone OS does not allow apps, other than iCal, to access this information.
- Movies or sounds contained in a media field that are greater than 10MB in size
- File list fields
- Automatic counter fields
- Message list fields
- Smart collections
Additionally, Bento for iPhone and iPod touch may not support large databases created in Bento for Mac due to mobile device memory limitations. Large databases can contain a large amount of records or large amounts of music, video, or photos.
VIEWING AND SEARCHING
In the Bento for iPhone list view, you can view and search a maximum of two columns (fields) at a time. This is different from the Bento 2 for Mac table view where you can view and search multiple columns. There is an iTunes-style searching feature in Bento for iPhone, but there is not an Advanced Find feature like Bento 2 for Mac.
AVAILABLE LANGUAGES
Bento for iPhone is available in English only but will synchronize with data from Bento 2.0v4 for Mac in English, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Spanish, and Japanese. The pre-defined templates that come with Bento for iPhone are in English only, but the pre-defined templates that come with Bento 2.0v4 for Mac are available in English, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Spanish and Japanese.

Just wondering if we can choose which Bento for Mac libraries to sync onto the phone, or if they all sync automatically. I am worried about the app eating up all the space on the iphone. Any ideas?
Neena,
A reliable source told me that you CAN choose which libraries to sync. I can’t test it myself at this point, because my Bento for iPhone app crashes constantly – just when I try to scroll all the way down a list. I hope to link up with tech support soon to see what I can do…
It is true, your friend is right. [Editor's note: probably referring to the iCal issue, see article above]
Hi All,
Is it possible to lock fields so that I cannot clear/delete the information??

Freddi,
no, not as far as I know. Would be a nice feature to get in a future release.
I am with Freddi!!!
All entries should be LOCKED once entered.
There should then be an “EDIT” button like many other iPhone APPS if the user wishes to edit and/or delete.
