Bento Tech Support!
Filed Under Bento News, Bento Tips
In case you didn’t know Filemaker offers free (limited) tech support for Bento by phone. You can also report crashes and problems, of course.
The number is: 1-800-325-2747.
For more details, see the Filemaker Contact page.

I tried this and they wanted $45 for a single call. That’s the same price as the damn software, which I’m beginning to think really sucks.
Gino, I agree. Filemaker is acting strange when it comes to Tech Support: the moment you need help USING the program you have to pay. Here is what the support page says:
(free support) “Receive assistance with installation, sync, launch and integration with Mac OS X Address Book, iCal and iPhoto.” Then on the bottom of the page it says: “Need help with a feature? Learn about priority support.” And “priority support” is what they thought your case was… (and it costs dearly). But where exactly they draw the line is very murky.
That’s why in those cases you’d have to come to us here at BentoUsers (we’re ALWAYS free) and the (also free) Bento Forums.
Final word: when it comes to crashes or bugs, the phone support HAS to be free! I would insist on that.
I downloaded the free Bento 3 trial and now I can’t access my data entered in Bento 2. It seems to be forcing me to buy Bento 3, which I’m not ready to do. Help!
Ann
Ann,
here is what is supposed to happen:
when you start Bento 3 for the first time, you get a pop-up window where you choose the trial option. Then Bento should automatically back up your Bento 2 database file and then convert it to Bento 3 format. If you ever want to go back to Bento 2, all you have to do is rename the back up of your database file before you start Bento 2 again.
So tell me in more detail what is actually happening to you so I can help.
Hi everyone. I accidently hit the “reverse database” back to over a year ago, so I have lost a year’s worth of information. I have Bento 2, does anyone know if it’s possible to revert it back to my current database?
Ann,
I’m not sure I understand how you could do that accidentally. If you choose “restore from a back-up” (File menu), you will get a warning AND after that you have to choose a specific back-up file. Or did you do something different?
In any case, if you did not back-up your current database before you do a “restore,” then your current database file will be overwritten and I don’t know a way to get it back.
But try to explain your problem also in the Bento forums, they have true technical support which I don’t have.
I bought Bento 2 a couple of years ago; couldn’t make it work for my need right away so left it alone. Today I accepted the $9 special offer to use Bento on Lion that I bought for my iMac. My computer says I can’t use Bento 2 on Lion. I don’t know how to get my new Bento software installed from a download. They send me a receipt for my purchase and the key for opening it if I ever get it up and running. What to do?
Hi,
wait for the email from Filemaker: it will contain a link to the actual download. Once the file is downloaded, look for it in your download folder. It should be a .dmg file. When you double-click it, it will open a finder window with a Bento app icon. Just drag the icon onto the application folder icon in that window. That will install Bento 4, overwriting your old Bento 2 app (after you click OK). Then start Bento and put in your license key. That should be it!
